Name:
Bark Louse (Psocoptera)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Piece of amber is 0.4 inches across
This is an excellent insect in Dominican Amber. It is a Bark Louse (Psocoptera) from the Oligocene deposits of the Dominican Republic. This specimen has great detail, showing the body, legs, and wings. Even the venation of the wings is wonderfully displayed. The louse is beautifully centered and easily seen in the polished piece of golden-yellow amber. This is a very beautiful insect trapped in fossil ooze (close-up photo is included for free).
