This is a textbook example of a very rare insect in amber. It is a large Enicocephalidae trapped in Dominican Amber. This type of insect is easily recognized by its uniquely-shaped head and anterior appendages. This specimen showcases these features beautifully. The bug is wonderfully articulated and was preserved in the classic prone position. The unusual arthropod is easily seen entombed within the round amber nugget. This is a truly bizarre insect preserved intact for generations to come.
