Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is about 0.9 inches long
This is an unusual fly in amber. It is a large Dance Fly (Empididae) trapped in Baltic Amber. This specimen is complete and nicely displayed - the entire fly is intact and well preserved. The fly has fine detail, especially on the HUGE faceted compound eyes. It is easily seen in the amber nugget, especially under magnification. This is a very uncommon insect with incredibly large eyes preserved (large close-up photo is included for free).
