This is a beautiful fly in amber. It is a large Fungus Gnat (Mycetophilidae) from the Dominican Republic. The gnat has great detail, and is preserved in a very aesthetic pose. The gnat is easily seen in the nicely banded, cognac-colored amber piece. This is a beautiful fossil Diptera trapped in Dominican Amber (small close-up photo is included for free).
