Name:
Gall Midge (Cecidomyiidae)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.6 inches long
This is a nice amber fossil. It is a Gall Midge preserved in Dominican Amber. The midge was trapped in the amber in an aesthetic ''wings open'' pose. The midge has good detail showing many fine features. There is also an unusual plant piece preserved in the amber (not pictured). This is a very nice amber fossil with both animal and botanical inclusions (close-up photo of Gall Midge included for free).
