Large Parasitic Mite in Baltic Amber

This is an unusual arachnid in Baltic Amber. It is a Parasitic Mite (Acaria) from Russia. This beast would attach itself to a host, and suck the lifeblood right out of it. This specimen has good detail and is easily seen in the amber piece. This is a good example of a fossil parasite in amber (close-up photo is included for free).
