Bryophyte and Gall Midge
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Mines

Size: Amber piece is about 0.7 inches square
This is a very unusual plant fossil in amber. It is a large Bryophyte in Dominican Amber. Bryophytes are primitive plants that include mosses and liverworts. This specimen is generally bushy, but also has long, leafy extentions. It is very detailed, and has a nice brown color preserved. The Bryophyte is EASILY seen in the large amber nugget. Also trapped in the amber piece is a fine Gall Midge. This specimen has good detail and complements the Bryophyte very well. This is a unique amber fossil showcasing a member of both the Plant and Animal Kingdoms fossilized together (small close-up photo is included for free).
