This is a very beautiful specimen of a Biting Midge in Dominican Amber. Because it is a Biting Midge, it may have traces of blood in its stomach. This blood could contain the DNA of extinct animals (remember Jurassic Park?). Therefore, this is a very collectible insect in amber. The midge has excellent detail. It displays the body, wings, legs, and segmented antennae beautifully. The proboscis of the beast is even preserved. The insect is easily seen in the honey-colored piece of amber. This is an outstanding specimen of a Biting Midge in amber from the Dominican Republic.
