Name:
Parasitic Wasp (Hymenoptera)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.6 inches
This is a very detailed insect in amber. It is a nice Parasitic Wasp (Hymenoptera) from the Dominican Republic. This type of wasp laid its eggs inside the bodies of other insects. When an egg would hatch, the larva would feed on its host. This particular specimen has very good detail. The wings, legs, and antennae are easily seen in the photo. This is a fine example of a Parasitic Wasp trapped in fossil amber (close-up photo is included).
