Name:
Ichneumon Wasp (Hymenpotera)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.48 inches long
This is an unusual insect in Dominican Amber. It is an Ichneumon Wasp trapped in a cognac-colored amber piece. This wasp has the textbook ''look'' of a true wasp. The wasp has excellent detail and wonderful preservation. It displays very well in the amber nugget. This is a great example of this uncommon type of wasp entombed in ancient tree sap (close-up photo is included for free)
