This is a very unusual inclusion in amber. It is an excellent Armored Sow Bug (Isopod) from the Dominican Republic. Most ground-dwelling insects are very uncommon in amber because they rarely ventured onto the trees to be trapped by the sap. This specimen is very detailed - the armored exoskeleton and many legs are easily seen on this animal. The ''Pill Bug'' can be viewed from all sides of the amber piece. The Isopod itself is EASILY seen trapped in the honey-colored amber nugget. This is an excellent example of a fossil ''roly-poly'' bug entombed in fossil ooze (TWO small close-up photos are included for free).
