This is an unusual insect in amber. It is a large Moth (Lepidoptera) from the Dominican Republic. The moth has great detail, and the long antennae are even fully intact. The wings and barbed legs make for a striking display. The moth is EASILY SEEN in the beautiful cognac-colored amber piece. This is an excellent specimen of a Moth trapped in "fossil ooze" (close-up photo is included for free).
