This is a gruesome-looking creature! It is a Thorny Tick from the Baltic Coast of Russia. This fossil arachnid looks like it is straight out of a monster movie! The eight spiny legs and leathery body make it look like the parasite that it is. The tick has excellent detail preserved, and is easily seen in the honey-colored amber piece. This is one critter that we're glad didn't escape from its ''ooze coffin''! (Large close-up photo is included for free.)
