This is an unusual insect in amber. It is a large Woodgnat (Anisopodidae) from the Dominican Republic. This type is known for its unusual segmented antennae, which are beautifully displayed on this specimen. The rest of the gnat is also well preserved. The gnat can be seen at the top of the round amber nugget. This is a good example of a fossilized Woodgnat (small close-up photo is included for free).
