Name:
Snipe Fly with Incredible Eyes
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.65 inches long
This is an amazing insect in amber. It is a large Snipe Fly from the Dominican Republic. Well, the obvious feature of this specimen is its incredible eyes - they're huge! Both massive compound eyes are covered with facets - this guy could probably see atomic particles! Oh yeah, the rest of the fly is also nicely preserved. And there is even a nice botanical trapped in the amber piece. This is a very special amber fossil that is simply unbelievable (small close-up photo is included for free).
