Name:
Biting Midge and Beetle Larva
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.55 inches long
This is an unusual pair of insects in Dominican Amber. There is a Biting Midge and a Beetle Larva trapped in the cognac-colored amber piece. The Biting Midge has nice detail - most of its features are easily seen. The Biting Midge may have blood in its stomach (possible DNA!). The larva has good detail and displays well. This is a very unusual pair of fossil insects keeping mixed company (close-up photo of Biting Midge is included for free).
