Name:
Two Millipedes (Diplopoda)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.4 inches long
This is an unusual pair of millipedes in amber. There are two Myriapoda Millipedes (Diplopoda) trapped in this amber piece. Millipedes differ from Centipedes in that they have two pairs of legs on each body segment - Centipedes only have one pair. The large Millipede in this piece is obvious and has nice detail. The many legs are easily seen. The small one is in the bottom left of the close-up photo. It, too, is nice and has good detail. This is a very collectible pair of fossilized Millipedes in Dominican Amber (small close-up photo is included for free).
