EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Worker Ant (Hymenoptera)
Age:  Oligocene
Formation:  Amber Mines
Location:  Dominican Republic
Size:  Amber piece is 0.5 inches long

This is a very nice fossilized ant in amber. It is a Worker Ant (Hymenoptera) from the Dominican Republic. This specimen has great detail - the legs, body, head, and both antennae are well-preserved. The ant is easily seen in the honey-colored amber piece. There is also a flower petal and stamen trapped in the amber. This is a very complete Worker Ant and plant parts preserved in Dominican Amber (small close-up photo is included for free).
