Bark Louse (Psocoptera)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.6 inches long
This is an unusual flying insect. It is a Bark Louse (Psocoptera) trapped in Dominican Amber. This insect is complete and has great detail, especially in the head area - the large eyes and long antennae are very well-preserved. The wings still retain the "stained glass" venation pattern, definitive of this type of insect. The louse is EASILY seen in the beautiful, honey-colored amber nugget. This is a scary-looking Bark Louse from the Dominican Republic (small close-up photo is included for free).
