Name:
Fossil Leaf
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 0.8 inches long
This is a very nice example of a leaf trapped in amber. It is a long, thin leaf from an unknown Eocene plant. Plants are unusual fossils in amber because they would have had to have fallen into the sap instead of crawling or flying into it. This leaf has great detail and is very definitive. The leaf is easily seen trapped within the amber piece. And, believe it or not, there is even a spider caught in the amber! This is a very fine specimen of a fossil leaf preserved in Baltic Amber (close-up photo is included for free).
