Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 0.7 inches long
This is a very nice fossil fly in Baltic Amber. It is a Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae) from Russia. The fly has good detail - the antennae, head, and segmented body (even the hairs on the back!) are all well displayed. The fly has huge, dark eyes and LONG legs that are easily seen in the photo. This is a very fine example of a fly preserved in "Fossil Ooze" (close-up photo is included for free).
