Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Piece of amber is 0.9 inches long
Here is a very nice double specimen of Fungus Gnats (Mycetophilidae) entrapped in Baltic Amber. This piece of fossil tree resin is from the Eocene of Russia. The amber has been highly polished on all sides to reveal the fine detail of the inclusions. The heads, bodies, and legs of the beasts are clearly defined. Even the antennae are wonderfully displayed. The Fungus Gnats are positioned closely together and are easily seen in the honey-colored fossil "ooze". This is a nice multiple specimen of Fungus Gnats from the Baltic Coast (close-up photo included for free).
