Name:
Fungus Gnats (Mycetiphilidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 1.5 inches long
This is a very nice specimen of Fungus Gnats preserved in Baltic Amber. There are at least five insects entombed in the fossil "ooze" (two are pictured). The large, golden piece of amber has been polished for optimal display. The insects are very easily seen under magnification in the beautiful chunk of fossil tree resin. The insects exhibit fine detail. This is a very interesting piece of Baltic Amber with many insects (close-up photo is included for free).
