Name:
Spider with Web Intact
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.95 inches long
This is a very rare amber fossil. It is a Spider with web preserved in Dominican Amber. Spiders are found in Dominican Amber, and spider webs in amber are occasionally unearthed. But it is extremely rare to find a spider and its web trapped together in an amber piece! This specimen has an excellent spider and a large section of web preserved. Both the spider and the web are easily seen in the honey-colored amber nugget. There is also an unusual flying insect (Family Psyllidae) trapped in the amber. This is an extremely rare and collectible amber fossil from the Dominican Republic (small close-up photo is included for free).
