Name:
Beetle (Coleoptera)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Russia
Size: Amber nugget is 0.8 inches long
This is an excellent fossil beetle. It is similar to a modern Potato Beetle (Coleoptera) that was trapped in Russian Amber. This beetle has great detail on the wing coverings - you can even see the surface reticulation detail and color variations! The beetle is easily seen trapped in the piece of amber. The beetle is nicely centered in the amber piece. There is also a gnat preserved in the amber. This is an excelent specimen of a Beetle entombed in Baltic Amber (close-up photo is included).
