Name:
Pseudoscorpion and Enhydros
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 1.2 inches long
This is a RARE set of inclusions in amber. There is a complete Pseudoscorpion, a Milichiid Fly, and at least seven enhydros (water bubbles) all trapped in this large amber piece. The Pseudoscorpion has great detail, as seen in the close-up photo. The segmented legs are present, and the large claws display beautifully - the hairs on the claws are even preserved! The fly is complete and also has nice detail (not pictured). However, the most unusual feature of this amber fossil is the numerous enhydros trapped inside. Air bubbles trapped in amber are not uncommon, but water bubbles are rare. These were usually caused by falling raindrops being engulfed by the oozing tree sap before they evaporated. You can tell enhydos from air bubble by seeing if they move when you rotate the amber piece. The water will move to the bottom of a bubble because of gravity - if you turn a true enhydro upside-down, the water will move to the bottom of the bubble. This phenomenon is EASILY SEEN in seven bubbles in this piece! A complete Pseudoscorpion in amber is a rare find, but one that also has seven enhydros is almost unheard of! (Small close-up photo of the Pseudoscorpion is included for free.)
