Name:
Moth (Lepidoptera)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 1 inch long
This is an unusual insect in Dominican Amber. It is a large fossil Moth (Lepidoptera) from the Dominican Republic. This specimen has great detail - the wings, legs, head, antennae, and even the eyes are all well displayed. The Moth is easily seen in the upper right corner of the amber piece. There is also a Leafhopper (with a leaf!) and a Scelionid Wasp trapped in the nugget of amber. This is a very nice example of a fossil Moth entombed in Dominican Amber (close-up photo of Moth is included for free).
