Dark Winged Fungus Gnat (Sciaridae) and Beetle (Coleoptera)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.65 inches long
This is a beautiful pair of insects in amber. There is a Dark Winged Fungus Gnat (Sciaridae) and a Beetle (Coleoptera) trapped in this piece of Dominican Amber. The gnat has great detail, and is preserved in a very aesthetic pose. The beetle is also nicely positioned. Both insects are easily seen in the honey-colored amber piece. This is a great example of two different insects preserved in fossil amber (two different close-up photos are included for free).
