Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Piece of amber is 0.5 inches long
Here is an excellent insect in Oligocene Amber. It is a True Midge (Chironomidae) from the Dominican Republic. This True Midge exhibits wonderful detail. The head, body, long legs, and wings are beautifully preserved. Even the tiny hairs on the beast are quite evident. The insect is well posed and easily seen in the polished piece of fossilized tree resin. This is a very detailed Midge trapped in amber (close-up photo included for free).
