Stock Number  ACFTM13

Name:   True Midge (Chironomidae)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Amber Deposits
Location:  Baltic Coast, Russia
Size:  Piece of amber is 0.75 inches long.

This is a beautiful specimen of an insect in Baltic Amber. It is a True Midge (Chironomidae) from Russia. The insect is wonderfully posed with the large wings in a "straight-up" position. The True Midge exhibits extraordinary detail. The head, body, and wings of the beast are exquisitely preserved. The venation of the wings is nicely displayed. The insect is very easily seen in the light yellow piece of fossil "ooze". There is also another insect entombed in the piece of amber. This is a great example of an insect in amber (close-up photo is included for free).
