This is an excellent insect in Baltic Amber. It is a True Midge (Chironomidae) from Russia. The insect is beautifully posed and easily seen in the polished yellow amber. The True Midge exhibits extraordinary detail. The long legs even show the tiny hairs. The venation of the wings is nicely displayed. The antennae and proboscis of the beast are quite evident. This is a beautiful specimen of an insect in amber (close-up photo is included for free).
