Name:
Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Russia
Size: Amber piece is 0.8 inches long
This is a very nice fossil fly in Baltic Amber. It is a Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae) from Russia. The fly has good detail - the antennae, head, and legs (even the hairs on the back!) are all well displayed. The fly was trapped in the classic "flying" position. This is a very fine example of a fly preserved in "Fossil Ooze" (close-up photo is included for free).
