Very Detailed True Midge In Baltic Amber

Name:   True Midge (Chironomidae)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Amber Deposits
Location:  Baltic Coast, Russia
Size:  Piece of amber is 0.8 inches across.

This is a very fine example of a True Midge in Baltic Amber from Russia. The insect exhibits very fine detail. The head, body, wings, and long legs are all present. The insect is located smack dab in the middle of the honey-colored piece of amber. It is easily seen with the naked eye. This is a great specimen of a True Midge in fossil "ooze".
