Nice Biting Midge (Possible DNA)
Stock Number  ACFBM05

Name:   Biting Midge (Ceratopogonidae)
Age:  Eocene
Formation:  Amber Deposits
Location:  Baltic Coast, Russia
Size:  Amber piece is 0.7 inches long

This is a nice insect in Baltic Amber. It is a Biting Midge (Ceratopogonidae) from Russia. Because it is a Biting Midge, it may have traces of blood in its stomach. This blood could contain the DNA of extinct animals (remember Jurassic Park?). Therefore, this is a very collectible insect in amber. And it is very easily seen in the amber piece. A fine specimen!
