This is an unusual insect in Baltic Amber. It is a Snipe Fly from Russia. This type has very large eyes, thick legs, unusual wings, and a humped back. The detail on this specimen is very nice. The large amber piece also has at least three other insects trapped as well. This is an uncommon insect preserved in a large chunk of Baltic Amber (close-up photo is included for free).
