This is a beautiful insect in Baltic Amber. It is a Biting Midge (Ceratopogonidae) from Russia. This specimen is a male, distinguishable by the sex organs on the tail. This guy might just have blood in its gut (DNA, remember Jurassic Park?). This is an excellent Biting Midge in amber (close-up photo is included for free).
