Name:
Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 0.8 inches long
This is a fabulous fossil fly in Baltic Amber. It is an excellent Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae) from Russia. The fly has extremely fine detail - the wings, long legs, and huge eyes (even the hairs on the back!) all display beautifully. The fly was trapped in the amber in such a way that it looks like it is floating in mid-air! The fly is EASILY seen is the honey-colored amber piece. This is a wonderful example of a Long-Legged Fly preserved in "Fossil Ooze" (large close-up photo is included for free).
