Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 0.6 inches long
This is a very fine example of a True Midge (Chironomidae) trapped in Baltic Amber. The insect exhibits very fine detail. The head, body, wings, and long legs are all present. The insect is located easily seen in the honey-colored piece of amber - it is even seen with the naked eye. This is a great specimen of a True Midge in fossil ''ooze'' (large close-up photo is included for free).
