Name:
True Midge (Chironomidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Baltic Coast, Russia
Size: Amber piece is 1.1 inches long
This is a nice fossil fly in amber. It is a True Midge (Chironomidae) from the Baltic Coast of Russia. This specimen has very good detail, as the legs, wings, and antennae are all visible. The midge was trapped in a very displayable ''flying'' pose. The insect is well-positioned in the large amber piece. This is a fine example of a True Midge preserved in amber (close-up photo is included for free).
