Name:
Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae)
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Russia
Size: Amber piece is 1.2 inches long
This is a very nice fossil fly in Baltic Amber. It is a Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae) from Russia. The fly has extremely fine detail - the wings, LONG legs, and HUGE eyes (even the hairs on the back!) all display beautifully. The fly was trapped in the amber in the classic "flying" pose. This is an excellent example of a Long-Legged Fly preserved in "Fossil Ooze" (close-up photo is included for free).
