Name:
Four Fungus Gnats, Wasp and Fly in Amber
Age: Eocene
Formation: Amber Deposits
Location: Russia
Size: Amber piece is 0.6 inches
This is a nice swarm of insects in Baltic Amber. There are four Fungus Gnats (Mycetophilidae), a Wasp (Hymenoptera), and a Long-Legged Fly (Dolichopodidae) in the piece. They were all trapped very close to each other, as seen in the photo. This is a nice example of a swarm of insects entombed in fossil amber (close-up photo is included for free).
