This is a very rare fossilized ant in amber. It is a large Leafcutter Ant (Hymenoptera) from the Baltic Coast of Russia. Ants are rarer finds in amber than you may think. This specimen has great detail - head, body, and legs are well preserved. But the real prize of this specimen is its HUGE cutting mandibles - these jaws are simply grotesque! The distinct ant is nicely showcased in the honey-colored amber piece. This is a very collectible Leafcutter Ant trapped in ''fossil ooze'' (large close-up photo is included for free).
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
