Name:
True Centipede (Myriapoda; Chilopoda)
Age: Oligocene
Formation: Amber Mines
Location: Dominican Republic
Size: Amber piece is 0.5 inches long
Price: $199.00
This is a rare amber specimen. It is an excellent Centipede (Myriapoda; Chilopoda) trapped in Dominican Amber. Centipedes differ from Millipedes in that they only have one pair of legs on each body segment - Millipedes have two pairs. Centipedes are very rare inclusions in amber - they were fast movers and could usually avoid the sticky resin. This specimen is complete and nicely displayed - the head, antennae, and long legs are intact and well preserved. This is a very unusual insect entombed in ''fossil ooze'' (small close-up photo is included for free).
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
