This is a very collectible amber piece with many insects preserved. It is a swarm of Gall Midges (Cecidomyiidae) from the Dominican Republic. There are at least eleven(!) midges trapped in the amber piece. One midge in particular has excellent detail and displays beautifully. This is a very prolific swarm of flies preserved in ''fossil ooze'' (close-up photo of the single gnat included for free).
